Blended Families

There are many challenges when families try to blend. These include step-parenting, disciplining the children, opposing styles of parenting and expectations, and managing the former spouse. A blended family home can be a happy home despite these challenges. The goal of counselling is to help make the transition as smooth as possible by addressing the many issues facing the members of a step­family.

Blended families are on the increase. A blended family can be a happy and positive place to be; however, there are often several challenges and issues that may be encountered. These may include:

  • Suddenly becoming a mom or dad
  • The other parent
  • Post­adjustment for children
  • Role definition
  • Blended grandparenting
